All of our practitioners are licensed to practice Acupuncture by the Maryland Board of Acupuncture. A Master’s degree in Acupuncture (M.Ac.) is required to be eligible for licensure in Maryland. Some practitioners choose to pursue higher degrees such as Doctorate of Acupuncture (D.Ac.), Doctorate of Oriental Medicine (DOM), or Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM). These are academic pursuits, not medical degrees.

In addition to her studies at Tai Sophia, Sarah spent two years studying with internationally-renowned Chinese medicine practitioner Lonny Jarrett in Stockbridge, MA. This system benefits her patients greatly by giving detailed information on both the nature and etiology of any pathological patterns that may be present.
Sarah specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, utilizing a sophisticated technique called the “Balance Method”, which allows for the treatment of pain without needling into the painful area itself. For example, neck pain can be treated by stimulating acupuncture points near the wrist and ankle.
She is also one of our Cancer Care, Comfort, and Recovery specialists. After her own cancer journey, as well as significant experience treating cancer patients, she decided to place special focus on this area of treatment. She is passionate about helping patients through the difficult challenges that a cancer diagnosis brings, and the complexity of healing that cancer treatments can create.
She also offers Scalp Acupuncture, a technique that can achieve excellent results with neurological conditions and symptoms including Bells’s Palsy, neuropathy(tingling/numbness), nerve pain, movement disorders, post-stroke symptoms, and more.
Sarah offers cosmetic acupuncture services including Microneedling, and serves as the clinic’s point of contact for directing patients to the best combination of cosmetic services for their individual treatment goals.
Sarah is certified by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) as an Acu Detox specialist. The NADA treatment protocol consists of 5 needles placed on each ear and is used often in her treatments for patients who are quitting smoking, dealing with overeating, coming off of long-term use of medication, or struggling with addictions of any kind.
Sarah is often found in our Low-Cost Community Clinic, chatting and getting our patients ready to relax for their treatments.
